Score card — what does the hero learn?
Goal: Earn the village's trust.
Scores in this story: Honesty, Courage, Trust
Morality note: Trust is earned, one honest choice at a time.
If the goal was not reached: If Mara had kept the music box, Honesty would be 0, the musician would stay sad, and the village would not trust her yet.
Funny Loser final: Mara hides the music box in her pocket, and it starts playing right in the middle of a quiet meeting. Ha, looooooser! Everyone turns around. Try again, hero!
Talk about it: What would you return even if no one saw you? How do you earn trust day by day?
Read the whole tale

Mara lived in a forest camp with her father and his bandits. They stopped carts on the road and took bread, coins, and pretty things that were not theirs.

One evening Mara found a small silver music box in the pile of stolen things. When she opened it, it played a soft, sad song. Inside was a tiny note: 'For my daughter, from Father.'

Mara knew this was not just a thing. It was someone's memory.

Before dawn, she walked alone to the village and knocked on the door of the old musician who had lost it. 'I am sorry,' she said. 'This is yours.'

The musician did not shout. He played the song for her, and then he shared his bread with her.

When Mara went back, her father was angry. 'You gave away our prize!'

'I do not want to take,' Mara said quietly. 'I want to earn.'

So Mara left the camp. She learned to bake in the village bakery, and slowly, day by day, people began to trust her. She was still a bandit's daughter. But she chose her own road.
