Goal: Lead Tomas home, and become his friend.
Scores in this story: Courage, Friendship, Kindness
Morality note: Even a shy heart can be brave when someone needs help.
If the goal was not reached: If Fia had stayed hidden behind the tree, Friendship would be 0, and Tomas would stay lost in the fog.
Funny Loser final: Fia hides so well behind the oak tree, Tomas walks past her three times and says, Where is everybody? Ha, looooooser! Try again, hero!
Talk about it: When were you shy but stepped out to help? How can a shy friend still be brave?
Read the whole tale

Deep in the Whispering Forest lived Fia. She was half girl and half faun: a kind girl's face, soft deer ears, small antlers like young twigs, and swift deer legs that could run without a sound. She wore a simple green tunic and a belt of leaves.

Fia was shy. She hid behind trees when people came, because she did not like being stared at.

One foggy evening she heard a small voice crying, 'Help! I am lost!' It was a boy named Tomas, who had followed a butterfly too far into the forest.

Fia could have stayed hidden. Her heart beat fast. But she stepped out from behind the oak tree and said, 'Do not be afraid. I will walk with you.'

She lit a lantern of friendly fireflies, sang a soft song so Tomas would not cry, and led him step by step to the edge of the forest, where the village lights were waiting.

Tomas hugged her and said, 'Thank you. You are the bravest friend in the forest.'

Fia smiled. She was still shy. But now she knew: even a shy heart can be brave when someone needs help.
